Premier League giants Manchester United were unable to add more quality to their side in the January transfer window manager after having a busy summer window, which saw newly appointed manager Louis van Gaal bring in a lot of world class players. The Dutch manager has improved United’s performance since last season’s horror after a dreadful phase under David Moyes, which saw United end at eighth place on the Premier League table. The Red Devils currently stand at third place and have hopes of playing in the Champions League next season.
With such high ambitions set for the future, van Gaal has already named Memphis Depay as his first summer signing, according to reports. The PSV star, is currently valued at £10m, was recently linked with a move to Manchester United and Tottenham in the past couple of windows. The North London side in particular were credited with a strong interest last month, as they were looking for a replacement for Aaron Lennon, yet, a deal could not be finalized and the player is still up for grabs. Lennon later left the club and joined Premier League rivals Everton on loan.
The Sun further claims that United are now plotting a £10m bid with The Dutchman keen on rebuilding his side and moulding it well, to win major titles in the future. Van Gaal knows Depay capabilities quite well from their time during last summer’s World Cup campaign with Holland, and his representatives are confident that a deal should be completed soon. Also, van Gaal is confident that Depay, who has been called the Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo, will be the first of a list of players that the Dutch manager wants to bring to Old Trafford. Depay has an amazing 16 goals to his name in just 22 appearances for PSV, this season and could be a high quality asset for United, as they look to fulfill their title aspirations in the future.
