Nemanja Matic is set to receive a new bumper deal at Chelsea as a reward for his excellent performances this season, as suggested by Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People. Matic, who missed Sunday’s Capital One Cup triumph of Jose Mourinho’s side through suspension, can expect a pay rise of approximately £1.5m a year as his weekly salary will go up from around £70,000, to nearly £100,000. The Serb has established himself as Chelsea’s key mid-fielders, alongside Cesc Fabregas and has been super this season.
Chelsea are on top of the Premier League at present and the Serbian international has been such an impact on his side’s performances that, of the three games the Blues have lost in all competitions, Matic did not play in two of them. Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis had spoken about his team-mate in an interview prior to Sunday’s final and said,
“Matic is a really important player. Everybody knows he has played in almost all the games this season, so he’s really important, and when an important player doesn’t play, of course we miss him.”
“But we have more than enough players to help the team. We have a really good squad, everybody is ready to play this game so I don’t have to cry about it, I have to look forward and try to do what I can do to help us win.”
