Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke in his press conference prior to the Gunners clash against Liverpool at the Emirates on Saturday. A victory at the weekend would put the north London side eight-points clear of their Champions League-chasing rivals, who are still struggling to make it into the top four. Knowing this, a confident Wenger spoke about what he expected from his side and gave an update on the players who are injured.
When asked about mid-fielders Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and right-back Mathieu Debuchy, the French manager said,
“They were all involved on Tuesday and it went well. They’ve no problem after that coming out of the game. They are back available in training, a bit short still of top competitive level certainly but that’s normal. They’ve been out for a long time but I was quite surprised by how fit they looked and the quality of their performance – it was good.”
Despite this Wenger did not confirm whether any of them would start the game against the Reds or not and further when asked, how vital their experience is to the side, Wenger added,
“You want everybody available and back in the final months to compete at the top level. The consistency will play a big part in the success of the team and having everybody available can help.”
Finally speaking on recently injured attackers Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck, the Arsenal boss stated,
“Oxlade-Chamberlain is still out and not available and Danny Welbeck came back from England with a slight knee injury. It looks like he has a little chance to be available for Saturday still.”
