Borussia Dortmund center-back Mats Hummels has revealed to his team-mates from the national side that he will be joining Premier League giants Manchester United in the summer. The Red Devils are in need of new and improved defensive options and were linked with the 26-year-old for months.
The World Cup winning superstar would cost Louis van Gaal’s side at least £35m and reports from the Mirror suggest that Hummels has informed his German team-mates about the possible switch. A source close to Hummels told the Mirror,
“He is preparing his exit and he gave some of the players signs that his transfer is close.”
The defensive superstar earlier dismissed rumours that he ‘promised’ to make the move to Old Trafford, but this latest speculation would suggest that he could be heading to England next season. If United do indeed sign the Dortmund superstar, they would add a high quality and experienced leader to their back-line, as the former Bayern Munich man is one of the best in the business at the moment.
