Chelsea will now make an official bid for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in the upcoming weeks. Manager Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the Frenchman, whom he signed during his tenure at Spain. Since the departure of the Portuguese boss, the youngster has grown increasingly unsettled with the competition for places at the Bernabeu.
If Varane does make the move to Stamford Bridge, he should become an integral part of the first team soon, as the Portuguese boss considers him the ideal replacement for skipper John Terry. Real’s officials have held talks with Varane and are discussing plans about his future though Mourinho is confident that the 22-year-old will sign for the Blues.
The Spanish media further confirmed that Chelsea will test the La Liga giants’ patience with an offer in the coming weeks. The former European Champions are not keen on a sale, but an offer of around £35.8m could be enough to tempt them to let the Frenchman leave.
