Arsenal were great in their game on Sunday at the Emirates, against an Aston Villa side that was quite poor. A tremendous display of attacking football was put on show by The Gunners, who scored five past the Villa defence. Many of Arsenal’s front men put in great performances including a young Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom. The young superstar striker who has been on loan previously at Brentford and Coventry, was brought on, for a period of 20 minutes, in which he impressed the onlookers, with his tremendous pace. Though, the England U-20 international was quite impressive in his last Premier League outing, he could leave the club on deadline day.
The 19-year-old is currently a loan target for Wigan Athletic and the Latics are expected to step up their interest with a push for his signature. Akpom has been previously linked with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Bundesliga strugglers Borussia Dortmund, who are hoping to clinch a deal when his contract expires at the end of the season. Other clubs from England’s top divison like, Manchester City, Tottenham and Everton are also keeping tabs on Akpom, who has played for The Gunners since the age of six.
The young Englishman has been phenomenal at times the international stage for the Three Lions’ in the Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 divisions, with 14 goals to his name till date. The 20 minutes against Villa was his longest run for the first team in the Premier League and his skill and agility earned him a penalty when Villa’s keeper Guzan fouled him in the box. Arsene Wenger is still hopeful that Akpom will remain in North London and sign a new contract, but the Gunners striker has been stalling a new deal till now, as he looks at the possible options that he has in hand. Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg, Feyenoord and FC Twente have all made inquiries for Akpom, according to reports and where the youngster goes, shall be seen in the near future.
