BBC pundit Pat Nevin has said that Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic has all the attributes to play up front for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. The Blues superstar has been superb this season playing at right-back and center-back in recent times and has a tally of four goals to his name during the current the Premier League campaign.
He has helped secure some vital points for the west London side and the Portuguese manager highly regards him, as well. Nevin stated in an interview that he believes that Ivanovic could easily do a job up front for his club and claimed,
“People will think I’m mad but I have no doubt right-back Branislav Ivanovic could replace Diego Costa up front.”
“He has a striker’s instinct and excellent movement, as he showed brilliantly in the 5-3 win over Everton earlier in the season with his run and finish. He not the quickest but he’s not slow and he looks to me like a player who has played as a centre-forward before in his career.”
“Any forward in the world would have even proud of the goal he scored at Goodison Park that day and it occurred to me then that he plays like a frustrated attacker.”
“Jose Mourinho often has a surprise or two up his sleeve and he has shown he can think outside of the box. He did it in the League Cup final against Tottenham, playing Kurt Zouma in midfield. Mourinho is not afraid to make big decisions and playing Ivanovic up front would be a possibility.”
