Premier League giants Manchester United have been linked with a move for young goalkeepers in recent weeks and yet another deal is very close to being completed, as reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. In the Tuesday edition it was stated that Joao Virginia is now waiting for the Red Devils to make a final decision, as he hopes to move to Old Trafford in the near future.
Virginia is currently playing for Benfica’s youth side and is 15 years old. He has been linked with United since last July and was on trial at the club’s Carrington base. The English club have been pleased with the player’s development over that time as well and may look to sign him soon.
The club keep scouting young talents from Portugal and keep tabs on Benfica in particular, on a regular basis. The Manchester based side monitors both their youth team and the first-team as well. Even if Virginia does make the move, it will take him a lot of time to develop into a world-class keeper and demand a spot in Louis van Gaal’s starting eleven.
