Reports coming from the Portuguese media now suggest that Manchester United had sent their scouts to Portugal to watch the league game between Benfica and Gil Vincete. Last week the Red Devils’ scouts were present at the ‘O Classico’ between Benfica and FC Porto and now the Premier League giants are looking to bring Argentine international Nicolas Gaitan to Old Trafford.
As stated in O Jogo, Louis van Gaal’s side were just one of the few English clubs looking to acquire the services of the 27 year old attacking midfielder, along with domestic rivals Everton. Scouts from the Merseyside club were present at the game on Saturday as well in which Benfica won 5-0. They are now set to retain their league title ahead of rivals Porto.
It was not confirmed who United were scouting, though the Benfica winger has been linked with the Dutchman’s side in recent months. Previously in February O Jogo had made claims that the Argentine would move to England at the end of the current campaign, with Manchester being his destination.
However, when Gaitan signed a new deal with the club last year the speculations died down. The midfield superstar also had his release clause reduced from €45m to €35m, which could be a positive sign for the Premier League outfit, though nothing is certain yet.
