Even with the transfer window firmly shut until the summer, speculation remains rife regarding possible big money moves across the continent. As such, Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has moved to deny reports linking him with a move to Barcelona.
The Spaniard is expected to depart Anfield at the end of the season after another costly error that led to Sergio Aguero’s equaliser during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday. Since the beginning of the 2011/12 season, it was his eighth mistake that has directly led to goals as a result.
With the Catalan outfit keen to bring in another goalkeeper following the emergence that Victor Valdes is likely to depart at the end of the season, a host of big named players have been mooted with a possible switch to the Camp Nou, with only four – Hugo Lloris, Manuel Neuer, Joe Hart and Thibaut Courtois – thought to be unavailable to the club.
David De Gea is the most likely to sign for the Blaugrana, especially with Asmir Begovic now linked with a move to Manchester United following Stoke City’s capture of Jack Butland from Birmingham City.
However, while Reina has denied the move, Barcelona would be better off searching for a ‘keeper that is less error prone than Liverpool’s number 1, especially following his performance at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
