With the current hotbed of talent emanating from South America at present, it’s no shock to see Chelsea continuously raid the continent for the latest youngsters that have the potential to take the footballing world by storm.
With David Luiz, Ramires, Oscar, Lucas Piazon and Wallace all on the books with the west London club, the Blues have no turned their attention away from Brazil and have instead swapped to Chile, with Cristian Cuevas supposedly attracting interest from the big spending European champions.
Reports on Monday suggest that Chelsea are in advanced negotiations with the 17-year-old’s club O’Higgins over a possible switch in the summer, according to his agent. With Frank Lampard supposedly on his way out of Stamford Bridge in the summer with his contract expiring, the need to strengthen could well be of vital importance to the Blues.
While it’s unlikely that Cuevas will be drafted in to break into the starting XI instantaneously, he has the potential to ensure that he will become one of the games better players, such is the possibility of him making it in the game.
Any deal may well see him move back on loan to O’Higgins in order to garner first team experience, but he’s still viewed as one of the games brighter talents and one that is tipped to become one of the best in the world.
