Joey Barton has been relatively quiet since his move to Marseille.
Apart from the hilarious press conference where he spoke with that ridiculous French accent, there hasn’t been much out of the man who left the Premier League in such acrimonious circumstances.
No, in fact, Barton has been good for Marseille and, even better, been keeping his temper under control somewhat. Not one single red card and Marseille are third in Ligue 1, five points off the leaders PSG.
But all good things must come to an end and so it was last week as Joey saw rouge for the first time following two pretty reckless challenges in a league game between Marseille and Nancy which led to two yellow cards and a sending off.
The first is questionable as it looks as though Monsieur Joey barely touches the player but the second is a Barton classic; borne out of frustration from the first and truly wild and dangerous.
Both cards came within four minutes of each other and it is something we have seen many times with Barton as he loses his rag, turns green and manages to get himself sent off.
I hope, for his sake, that he continues his good form for Marseille but a leopard never changes its spots eh?
