Top 5 Signings in the Premier League 2012-13 (Video)

There have been many an article written about who have been the best signings this season in the Premier League, here is my opinion on this issue. The main thing I was looking for in choosing my top five was the impact each player has made, the fee spent and to spread it out across all areas of the league. So, here goes:

5. Jan Vertonghen – Ajax to Tottenham (£10million)

Spurs narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification and despite people labelling them as a one-man team because of the exploits of Gareth Bale, the truth is Vertonghen has the best centre back in the league this season. When he signed from Ajax there was not that much hype surrounding the deal but after his very impressive showing this year, they will want to keep hold of the Belgian for as long as possible.

4. Romelu Lukaku – Chelsea to WBA (Loan)

What a shrewd piece of business it was from West Brom to bring in Lukaku on loan from Chelsea. He was not given many opportunities in his first season in England but this year he has shown why people have called him ‘the new Didier Drogba’. Lukaku is remarkably quick and strong for one so young.

3. Christian Benteke – Genk to Aston Villa (£7million)

Once Benteke broke into the Villa team at the start of the season, he did not look back. He almost single-handedly dragged Villa away from the drop zone, scoring 19 league goals in the process. It’s no wonder teams such as Dortmund and Spurs have been linked.

2. Michu – Rayo Vallecano to Swansea (£2million)

Michu is the find of the season. Bought for just £2million from Rayo, the Spaniard has become Swansea’s key player. He has scored over a third of their goals this season with 18 in the league. To top off a great first season in England, he won a trophy too.

1. Robin van Persie – Arsenal to Man Utd (£24million)

What is there left to say about RVP? He was the golden boot winner for the second season running with 26 goals and the scorer of goals in big games against Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham. He has been Man Utd’s driving force this season and without his vital goals the chasing pack would have been closer to United.
