Now, I know some Manchester United may take umbrage to what I am about to say, but I have long thought that Danny Welbeck is just a little bit overrated.
I was surprised to see him on the shortlist for Young Player of the Season considering he scored one league goal.
‘But he works really hard all around the pitch’ I hear defenders of the noble Welbeck name say and this is certainly true but considering he is a forward it should be about just a little more than that. Namely scoring every now and then.
Look, this is just my opinion, but I don’t think he is fully deserving of all the hype surrounding him. He is only 22 years old, though, and his best years as a footballer are ahead of him and I may well have to eat my words when he develops into the 30 goal a season striker United obviously think he can be.
I didn’t pick this clip because I wanted to have a little dig at Welbeck (OK, maybe a little). On the contrary, in fact, I selected it because of the comedic value that it provides.
A professional footballer trying to display some his tekkers in front of a packed crowd and he ends up backheeling it out of play. Brilliant. It’s good to see that Welbeck has been working on his game intensely during the off season otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to pull that off.Mo
To be fair, it is only a pre-season game and if that can’t attempt a couple of cheeky trips in such a setting than where can they, I ask you?
David Moyes will certainly not stand for such tomfoolery during the real season so Welbeck better be careful.
