There have been many rumours going around that Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o will be on his way to Stamford Bridge if Jose Mourinho gives up on trying to buy Wayne Rooney. Eto’o, currently at Anzhi Makhachkala, will cost Mourinho around £5m but I think his wages will be incredibly higher. The former Inter striker has scored 55 times in 112 games for his country.
Many would say Eto’o was at his best when he was playing for Barcelona between 2004 and 2009 – he picked up 108 goals in only 145 appearances for the Spanish club. He also scored in two Champions League finals for the Catalans. After playing for Barcelona, Eto’o signed for Inter in a deal where Barca gave the Italian side £40m and Samuel Eto’o for Swedish giant Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Eto’o continued his goalscoring form as he found the net 33 times in 67 games which gave him a ratio of almost 1 goal in every 2 games.
Although he is 32 years old, Jose Mourinho still thinks he has what it takes to perform at the highest level of English football. What is almost guarenteed is that Samuel will bring goals to the Blues if he does join.
But lets not get ahead of ourselves, because Chelsea could still purchase Wayne Rooney and the news about Eto’o could just be rumours. Even if Jose doesn’t get anybody else this transfer window I still think that Chelsea’s squad are more than capable of challenging for the title.
