Julian Draxler – The Next Big Thing

I realise the statement that I made in the title is rather bold, but if you’ve seen him over an extended period of time then you’ll realise my statement isn’t as bold as first thought. The 19-year-old German has spent his entire professional career at Schalke and most of his youth days as well. He also plays for the German national team, which says an awful lot about the quality of the player if he already features for Germany at his age.

This player reminds me of Thomas Muller in a way – he’a hard working and versatile, which any team in the world would love have in their squad. Luckily enough for Schalke, they already have him. Again, like Muller, he’s a very clever player – he can slice open opposition with just a quick glance up and a swing of a boot because he already knows in his head what players are making the runs, and where. All he then has to do is pick the right player which he does with increasing regularity.

He’s more of a trickster than Muller, it has to be said, but both are capable of beating their opponents with ease. Draxler looks very elegant when in possession of the ball, almost like he doesn’t even have to break sweat to look his best. Not many players in the world can have that said about them.

Lastly, although I could go on for a lot longer, I’d like to bring to your attention his finishing abilities. 13 goals and 7 assists last season is an impressive tally for a player of his age. He’a capable of scoring a few belters as well, as you’ll see in the video.

As always, enjoy the video
