So, it has come to pass and Real Madrid have spunked a whole load of cash on Tottenham’s Gareth Bale as he becomes the world’s most expensive player.
Extraordinary developments and the question still lingers over whether or not one player is worth that much, regardless of how talented they are. It has happened, though, and now Real Madrid will have £165m worth of talent on their wings, and if they aren’t able to win a Champions League in the next couple of seasons then it will be a remarkablefailure, in my eyes.
Anyway, we all know about the goals, the pace, that wonderful left peg of his and, of course, the ears. But Madrid well welcome Bale’s amazing ability to fall to the ground even if there has been no contact between him and another player. Bale used this skill to great effect whilst at Spurs and the team were awarded many penalties as a result. A great deal then for Madrid.
Yes, ol’ Gareth is a bit of diver, isn’t he? Bale provided some of the best dives we have seen in years and his vast array provided plenty of entertainment. His dive against Arsenal a few seasons ago was exemplary and his excellent effort against Aston Villa would have surely received a few tens has judges been scoring.
Farewell then, Gareth, and may you continue to expertly dive in Spain as you have here in England. Here is a collection of some of the best and let’s hope you keep up the good work at Madrid so somebody can put another one of these together.
