How about that Roma eh? One goal conceded? Top of Serie A? Ten wins out of ten? Not too shabby.
I don’t think many would have predicted that but that is the joy of football; just when you think you know what is going to happen, who is going to contend….BAM! Here comes Roma fully loaded to win ten on the bounce to start a season, a feat that no other Serie A team has been able to do. Ever.
Just the one goal conceded in those ten games?! One goal. That is unbelievable. Is that a result of an imperious Roma back four or is just that there is no real attacking football in Italy? Either way, it is still a fantastic achievement.
Some say Roma’s outstanding form has something to do with Gervinho’s arrival in the summer from Arsenal. Of course, his time in London was something of a disappointment, as numerous calamities destroyed his confidence and led to the fans, and manager, losing faith in him.
Being reunited with Rudi Garcia, his manager at Lille, has given Gervinho a new lease of life and his dribbles rarely end with the ball going out of play anymore; they actually have purpose and direction. By the looks of things, his finishing has improved significantly as well and he looks as though he is really enjoying his football in Italy. Good for him.
How long can Roma keep this up for, though? They are clear at the top of the table by five points, but inevitably there will be a dip in form and it will be the team’s response to that dip which will really show if they are contenders.
