Another team that are constantly linked with players around the world is Chelsea. They have the riches and the current talent to be linked with a number of top teams around the world and that’s the majority of their rumours, with a sprinkling of youth prospects.
Chelsea have a team full of world class players and in every position they have two or three players. So although they have a big squad with some youth players coming through, their ruthless nature allows them to go out and spend big money on players that they don’t really need – Willian, for example. Anyway, here are five players that have been linked with in the past week.
1. Robert Lewandowski
Much has been said about the future of the big Polish centre forward and where he’ll end up when he leaves Borussia Dortmund. Bayern Munich appeared to have all but confirmed the signing of Lewandowski but conflicting reports emerged in the last month or so which have suggested that the player is far from signing anything with Bayern.
This has paved the way for other clubs to make a move for him and Chelsea are one those clubs. However, they will face heavy competition from numerous amounts of big clubs in Europe, but it definitely won’t be easy for them.
2. Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian has made his mark on Europe as a player that haunted Chelsea in the Europa League last season and again in the Champions League this season as his goal got Basel the win against Chelsea during the week, as well as scoring in the reverse fixture.
After the game on Wednesday night, he apparently told the press that he’d love to play for Chelsea, Real Madrid or Manchester United. With performances like the ones he’s produced this season and last, he could well be on his way to one of these big clubs.
3. Fabio Coentrao
With an injury crisis at left back at the moment, due to an Ashley Cole injury, Chelsea could make a move for Real Madrid star, Fabio Coentrao. But they may only solve this problem for the short term because Madrid seem to be only letting him go on loan which may put of the Blues because they tend to buy players rather than loan them.
The arrival of Coentrao will move Azpilicueta back to his regular right-back position and it will give Cole time to heal properly.
4. Jackson Martinez
On Thursday it was reported that Martinez, of F.C Porto, has had his agents in London thrashing out a deal with the Chelsea hierarchy. It’s said that these talks have landed the player on the verge of joining the Blues for £33 million.
The Colombian hit man has been a prolific striker for a couple of seasons now as he’s scored a massive 34 goals in 40 league appearances since the start of the 2012/2013 campaign – A fantastic record that is sure to excite any potential employer.
5. Ivan Rakitic
The Croatian central midfielder is another big name linked with the Premier League giants this week and another player that made the Thursday gossip columns. The Sevilla star has been in and amongst the goals and assists this season as he already 7 goals and 6 assists in 12 appearances. He would be a good buy for Chelsea to replace the ageing Frank Lampard.
