The Premier League season is heading for a big finale in terms of who will win as the title race is wide open because six or seven teams have the potential to win the league if it all goes their way. Tottenham Hotspur are one of those teams but they have struggled in recent weeks to establish any kind of title winning form after they were defeated 6-0 last weekend by Manchester City who are also very inconsistent at the moment.
At the start of the season, Spurs were applauded for their defensive work and for a number of weeks they had the best record in the league. However, at the time, they were also criticised for their lack of goals. Fast forward a few months to the present day and you’ll find that their defensive record is nowhere the best but their firepower in front of goals has remained the same.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester City all have better or the same defensive record. But only Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Hull have scored less or the same. This proves that Spurs need a striker more consistent than Jermain Defoe, Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor. Here are threestrikers who are an improvement on them.
1. Javier Hernandez
The little Mexican may not be the ‘marquee’ type striker that will give Tottenham the wow factor in attack, but he’s likely to be available and if you give him the supply then he will get goals and from every angle.
He’s out of favour at Manchester United and is visibly unhappy at his role in the team. If he tries to force a move, Tottenham could pick him up quite cheaply. It’s also important to remember that the player doesn’t need time to settle in as he’s scored regularly since he joined. In my opinion, he’ll be an improvement on Soldado.
2. Diego Costa
The Atletico Madrid star has been in absolutely incredible form this season and is one of the top scorers in Europe at the moment. With 18 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions that he’s played in including 15 goals in 15 La Liga games, he’s set the footballing world alight.
Madrid will almost certainly not allow him to leave in January because of his importance to the team maybe the exchange of players and some money will gain the attention of Atletico. He’s a gifted striker that will definitely improve this Spurs team with the form he’s in.
3. Giuseppe Rossi
The Italian centre forward was out with an injury from October 2011 to May 2013 which is a hell of a lot of time out on sidelines. Perhaps mentally damaging more than anything but he’s returned in time for this season and, in the eyes of Fiorentina, it’s lucky that he has. 11 goals in 13 Serie A games is a very good statistic when you consider what the player just went through and it’s amazing that he’s recovered at all, let alone this well.
