If having a midfield group consisting of Ramires, Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien wasn’t enough, it now seems that Jose Mourinho is ready to land Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin. TalkSPORT report that the Blues have reportedly offered the Serie A club £15m for the player, so I thought that I would put a little scouting report together.
He is primarily a central midfielder, despite what talkSPORT say about him being a winger, and he plays from box to box. His energy levels are remarkably high and it allows his team-mates to play with more fluidity, knowing that he will either be forward to support them or sweeping up the mess in front of the defence.
He has played 18 league games for Inter this season and made 26 key passes, claiming four assists along the way. He has a 70% pass completion rate, which is actually quite poor for a central player, but he makes up for it with his movement.
Something that is also below par is his individual battles. Guarin has won less than half of the tackles he has gone in for and an even smaller percentage of the headers he has gone up for.
For me it seems like a weird one considering the midfield options, but Jose knows best, right?
