With Patrice Evra’s Manchester United contract running out in the summer, it could be time for David Moyes to start looking for a replacement. Some people want Leighton Baines to make the move from Everton, while some fancy Southampton’s Luke Shaw to sign at Old Trafford. One name that keeps popping up though is Fabio Coentrao, who according to the Express is on the verge of signing until the end of the season. But is he the right man for the job?
Having played 67 games for Los Blancos over the two and a half seasons that he has been at the club, Coentrao has established himself as a top defender in Europe. He has previously had stints at Rio Ave, Benfica, Nacional, Real Zaragoza and Benfica, but has never stayed at a club for more than three seasons.
He’s an incredibly skilful player who loves to run at opposing full-backs, but it’s his delivery into the box that sets him apart from many topflight left-backs. He has quick feet, knows how to beat a player and knows how to defend, which, as a defender, is pretty handy, isn’t it?
For me the Portugal international is the perfect addition, especially as a loan player, and if he impresses then United would surely be in the hot seat for a permanent deal.
