This summer was one of change at Tottenham. The sale of Gareth Bale allowed for Andre Villas-Boas to splash the cash on a host of new players, but after the Portuguese coach watched his side struggle he was the one who got the blame, and he was subsequently sacked. Since then, the blame has shifted on to those who have failed to make an impact since arriving in the summer, and one of those is Etienne Capoue. The Mirror are suggesting that the midfielder could be off, with Napoli supposedly interested, but I think that Spurs are right to want to keep hold.
The France international has done enough to impress me, and if he hadn’t picked up his injury at the start of the season then I think a lot more people would be sold on his ability.
Although he is a holding midfielder, Capoue has also filled in at centre-back. Although he wasn’t the most convincing in that role, he still showed that he could do a job and he seemed to relax those around him.
This season the 25-year-old has played eight Premier League games so far this season and has completed 84% of his passes, as well as winning half of his tackles.
He’s a flexible player who still has a lot to offer, and although Spurs are holding on because they apparently want more for his services, I think he should stay at White Hart Lane because of his ability.
