The World Cup is edging closer and closer and its arrival is being eagerly anticipated by the whole world. Even if you’re not a football fan, the patriotic side of your personality will get the best of you. Even if your country isn’t taking part, there’s still the attraction of lots of quality almost every day. Millions and millions of fans worldwide will sit down, stand up, lay down or jump around as they enjoy the greatest footballing event ever.
This gives the players involved that extra something that will make them shine. There’s is a huge fight for a place on those planes to Brazil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is facing a huge fight to be in Brazil this summer.
The fight on his hands is whether he’ll be fit enough as the Daily Mail have reported that the Arsenal medical team are keeping a close eye on persistent groin problem for the England international.
There’s no doubt that on many occasions this season, Chamberlain has demonstrated why he should be in the squad that travels to Brazil. Bayern Munich away, Tottenham Hotspur away and Wigan at Wembley are a few examples.
It’s also clear what Chamberlain will bring to the England team and what he brings to the Arsenal team in the absence of Theo Walcott.
For England, his versatility and combination of a modern winger with plenty of skills and traditional British grit is something that England desperately. How many times do you see a winger try and beat a man, lose it and then attempt to redeem themselves by tracking their tackler until something happens? Not very often, unfortunately.
I really like Chamberlain because I think he’s different from the rest; thankfully he’s in Arsenal and England colours.
Now, for Arsenal, in the absence of Theo Walcott, they lack pace in their attack and it has killed them in games which Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil haven’t taken part in. When Ozil succumbed to injury, Alex stepped up and performed extremely well. His pace and direct nature gave Arsenal an extra dimension and it helped it some wins.
This is a big worry for Arsenal and England fans as he’s not officially injured but he has the potential to be struck down at any time which is a bigger problem in my opinion. At least with an outright injury you can plan to cope with their absence and won’t have to worry about aggravating anything.
