We are now just a week from the World Cup and a little more for the first England game. The Three Lions will take on Italy in their first game next Saturday, and a former international midfielder has warned Roy Hodgson’s men about the potential danger man.
Former Manchester pass-master Paul Scholes didn’t have the most successful time with the England squad but his achievements at Old Trafford were extraordinary and if anyone can earmark a potential danger man from a midfield it’s him.
He has told his countrymen that Andrea Pirlo has the ability to rip them apart, which got me thinking about how Hodgson’s boys could stop that from happening.
Scholes rightly points out that the worst thing England could do was give him space and time on the ball. His vision and ability to pick a pass is remarkable.
So, to stop that from happening you need an energetic player to get in his face, make niggly challenges and ultimately smother the Juventus skipper.
In my opinion that man should be Jack Wilshere. The Arsenal midfielder is like a wasp in a sense that he never lets opponents be and is willing to stick his foot in.
Could Wilshere be the water that puts out the Pirlo fire next week? I think so.
