Last season David Moyes looked to make the most of the wide players at Manchester United, demanding a huge amount of crosses from his men per game. With Adnan Januzaj and Antonio Valencia, and later Juan Mata, Moyes had pace, power and an abundance of technical ability on the flanks. However, he also had a lot of deadwood.
Ashley Young again flopped at Old Trafford and spent most of the season in the background, while Nani did something similar despite signing a new long term deal at the start of the campaign.
They are now being linked with a move for a winger at the top of European football, though, in the shape of Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben.
Should the Netherlands attacker come into the club over the summer, then surely new boss Louis van Gaal will have a bit of a clear out to make space.
Robben, who became the fastest football ever after his sprint for his national side last week after clocking speeds of 37km per hour, would be a fantastic signing, in my opinion. He may be 30 years of age, but last season he scored 11 Bundesliga goals and notched six assists, as well as another four of each in his 10 Champions League appearances.
I think getting rid of Young, Nani and possibly Shinji Kagawa to make room for Robben would be their best bet, leaving them with the aforementioned Holland international, Januzaj, Mata and Antonio Valencia would be the best bet. Especially as they have Danny Welbeck as cover.
