Manchester United have had their fair share of attackers linked with the club since the Premier League season finished, with Edinson Cavani, Marco Reus and Angel Di Maria just a few of those named. Louis van Gaal looks set to give this Manchester United squad a revamp and he has started that by buying Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera. The Dutchman’s aim is to challenge to win the Premier League title, with a trophy and a Champions League spot possibly the minimum some fans expect of him.
Antonio Valencia has proven to be a very talented winger who offers pace, directness and a great final ball. However, the Ecuador international’s form has been patchy for a couple of seasons now and this has led United to chasing a few wingers in that period, although not heavily. One man that could be pursued with great interest is Alexis Sanchez. The Sun are reporting that Manchester United are in race to sign the Chilean star, whose price has shot up after his World Cup performances. They do face a fight from Liverpool and Arsenal, though, who are arguably closer to signing him than United.
However, if the Red Devils do land Sanchez then I think he will be the perfect player to lead the club to Premier League glory. Many who did not watch La Liga last season have used the word of others to judge him, but the World Cup has given those people a chance to see his abilities. The forward certainly didn’t disappoint as he led Chile out of their group. Unfortunately for his side, he couldn’t take them to the quarter-final.
With Chile out of the World Cup, Sanchez can now sort out his future and United will be very interested to see what he does. Sanchez would be perfect for United because he offers the same things as Valencia, but so much more at the same time. Juan Mata feeding the Chilean who can then aim for Robin van Persie is the kind of stuff dreams are made of.
His pace, low centre of gravity and devastatingly quick feet make him almost impossible to defend against and if United can get Sanchez for next season then they’ll reap the rewards.
