Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has spoken up on summer target and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. Mourinho had earlier described the French centre back as on the best young players and had tried to persuade him to join Chelsea. However that was a futile exercise as the player remained at the Madrid capital and Mourinho now admits his chances of landing Varane are slim. the Portuguese manager reckons Varane will be atrue start in the upcoming 2016 Euros.
“I like Varane, but everybody knows that he will stay at Real Madrid. France has a lot of good players like Varane, Pogba, Benzema and Lloris. They can win Euro 2016. I have a lot of respect for Deschamps. In the World Cup, we saw a great French team.”
Mourinho’s pursuit of Varane is understandable. With John Terry being almost on the verge of hanging up his boots in a couple of seasons, Chelsea would very well do with a centre back. Varane would be a perfect fit to the long term options at the club. Mourinho also stated that Real will never sell the youngster.
Mourinho also praised Cristiano Ronaldo who has now scored 13 La Liga goals in just six appearances this term, and likened him to Zinedine Zidane. “Ronaldo’s an incredible player,” he added. “It’s like Zidane for you, there will be no other. He is incredible, he’s a goalscoring machine
