Chelsea have completed the signing of Arsenal and Manchester City target Nicolas Tie of France. The goalkeeper is reportedly just 13 years old and will complete his move to the Blues when he turns 16 in 2017. Tie is currently at his hometown club of FC Poitiers in France. Not much is known about him besides the fact that he is already 6.1 feet tall. The signing however keeps Chelsea’s customs on signing tall goalkeepers. it is also reported by English media outlet DAILY MAIL that Tie will play at the club’s Cobham base during holidays until he is of age.
While Thiabut Courtois has firmly made his claims of being the number one goalkeeper, Petr Cech has been a great servant of the club and the Czech showed great promise despite his age after coming on in the last league game after Courtois had to be withdrawn due to an injury.
Give me Sport however writes that Tie has already gained an incredible reputation with his hometown club FC Poitiers. With plenty of growing years left, it would be easy to see him reaching similar heights of Cech (6ft 5in) and Courtois (6ft 6in). It looks like a good move given that any goalkeeper with a great height makes it big in the top level. But with Chelsea willing to sign the player three years in advance, speaks volumes of Tie’s talent.
Chelsea fans will believe that Tie can reach the heights of Cech and Courtois as per their future plans and its will be a huge bargain if the French youngster can establish himself once he matures and comes of age.
