Time To Get Very Excited: Manchester United Set To Sign Oranje Duo

Louis Van Gaal’s affinity towards Dutch players continues as Manchester United are being linked with possible January moves for Nigel De Jong and Ron Vlaar.

United’s lack of a holding midfielder was a big problem in the early stages of the season as they were cut open by weaker teams. The signing of Daley Blind has bought them some respite, but still, a player of De Jong’s experience and expertise will definitely suit them better.

De Jong, who played for cross-town rivals Manchester City not so long ago, has resurrected his career some what after a few disappointing periods since leaving Manchester City. A key factor that could lead to a cut-price transfer in January is that the 29-year old’s current contract expires in June 2015. Talks are ongoing as De Jong wants to sign a new contract with the Rossoneri, however, Van Gaal could lodge a bid come January to test Milan’s resolve and prize away De Jong as Milan run the risk of losing him for free in the summer should contract talks break down.

De Jong would be an ideal signing for United as he is adept in breaking play and not afraid to make a tackle or two, something that they have missed so far in the league.

Vlaar to move on if wage demands are not met

United’s other target, Ron Vlaar, has reportedly asked the club to double his current wages. The defender has been sidelined with a Disrupted Calf Muscle, but could make an appearance in the coming weeks. Like De Jong, Vlaar will be a free agent next summer as his contract expires in June. Should Aston Villa decide to sell him, he’ll cost somewhere in the region of £5m to £10m.

It was earlier reported that even £50,000-a-week will not prevent Vlaar from leaving, so for Villa to maintain their books and not lose him in the summer, a deal could very likely happen in January.

If Van Gaal manages to sign both De Jong and Vlaar, then he’ll have 4 players from the Dutch squad that he managed at the World Cup.
