Arsenal Supporters’ Trust revealed that the Gunners have a huge transfer war chest of £42million to spend in the January transfer window.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis suggested during the recently concluded annual AGM meeting that they (Arsenal) don’t have a huge budget to spend in transfers. But, Arsenal Supporters’ Trust’s independent analysis contradicts Gazidis’ statements and reveals the exact the cash available for the North London club to strengthen their squad in January.
Here are the exact word from AST’s report,
‘The AST estimates that the spare cash available for investment in the squad in January is approximately £42m,’
‘Further additional investment will be possible in the summer of 2015 as long as Arsenal qualify for the Champions League for the 2015-16 season.
‘The AST remains very frustrated that with such resources available further additions weren’t made to the squad in key positions. It now remains to be seen whether running such a small squad in these positions will prove costly to Arsenal’s title ambitions this season.’

£42million is indeed a good money but the question is, Will Wenger spend that much in middle of the season? In last January, Wenger’s failure to add depth to the squad costed them dearly in the title race, during which they stayed at top for more days than any other club in the premier league but ended up finishing 4th. Arsenal fans will hope Wenger has learnt from his previous mistakes and do spend the available money to bring in few world class talents, especially some defenders and a defensive midfielder to Emirates.
