Report: Manchester United Set To Complete £50m Star Signing

According to reports from English tabloid Independent, Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent deal. The Red Devils had earlier paid a £6m fee on the transfer deadline day in the summer to secure the Colombian’s services for a season long loan deal. Despite there weren’t any guarantees to sign Falcao on a permanent deal, reports now have claimed that the Old Trafford outfit have managed to do so.

Thus United will now pay a further £44m to confirm Falcao’s stay at Manchester on a long term deal. It looks like a great piece of business from Louis Van Gaal given Robin van Persie is getting older with every passing day and might not be able to carry on for more than two seasons. However, the price might draw some glance given Falcao is already 28. His fitness too comes as a major worry, it has been seen that Falcao is yet to recuperate from the injury that saw him miss the World Cup in Brazil.

The former Porto and Atletico star earns a hefty wage packet of £240,000-a-week. It is believed that Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes has been a big factor in getting the deal signed and complete. Mendes has a great relationship with United for a long time given that he brought Angel di Maria to Old Trafford from real Madrid in the summer. Falcao’s wages, costing around £12.5m a year with a long-term contract would take his acquisition close to £100m.

Falcao though has only scored once in five outings for United. He was dropped to the bench in the 2-2 draw with West Brom and missed the 1-1 draw with Chelsea through injury last weekend. However, he is expected to return for this Sunday’s lip-smacking Manchester derby.
