Mattia Destro is currently unhappy at Italian side Roma. The striker has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea over the past few months and reports from Daily Express have claimed that the forward might quit Roma for more game time elsewhere. Destro was courted by both Arsenal and Chelsea in the summer but opted to stay in the Italian capital. However, chances have been hard to come by as Roma manager Rudi Garcia has preferred club legend Francesco Totti to lead the line alongside Gervinho. Destro though has given a good account of himself and has already scored 4 Serie A goals this season, showing he is ready for the challenge when called into action.
Destro thus claimed, “I can only do my talking on the pitch. Some people speak with their voice, I speak on the field. I try to score goals when I have the opportunity. [Should I be given] more opportunities by the coach? That’s up to the coach. I think with my head, I make decisions with my head. So we’ll see.”
Arsenal could well do with another striker despite the fact that the Gunners signed Danny Welbeck from Manchester United on the summer transfer window’s deadline day. With Olivier Giroud injured, Destro would easily fit in Arsene Wenger’s side and is capable of leading the line to great effect. For Chelsea, the situation seems different. Despite manager Jose Mourinho being an admirer of Destro, a move would not suit the Blues. They already have Diego Costa to lead the line with Loic Remy and Didier Drogba too has shown in the past week that he can be still counted upon.
Real Madrid were also interested in the former Genoa star in the summer. But if Destro is looking for more game time, Bernabeu doesn’t seem to be the ideal destination.
