Manchester United started 2015 with a draw against Stoke City. Phil Jones was clearly unhappy with Manchester United’s attacking play in the match and has gone ahead and criticized his attacking unit. The 22 year old felt that the attack consisting mainly of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Juan Mata did not create enough to breakdown the defence and find a winner. United were held to a 1-1 draw at the Britannia on new year’s day when Falcao canceled out a Ryan Shawcross’ second minute opener. The England international believes that there was not enough created by United to find a second crucial goal and push for anything more than a point which they should have.
He was quoted as saying, “We played well in parts but probably didn’t create as many chances as we would have liked. I think the draw’s a fair result in the end. I think it’s maybe just the final pass, the final ball. But we’ll evaluate everything we’ve done at Stoke and we’ll try to improve.”
Manchester United have now gone on an unbeaten ten game run and Jones insists that the defence which at once point of time looked quite weak, is now the foundation of this team and the reason for the streak. United have had a lot of injury problems this season, yet have managed to make it to the third spot in the points table at the moment and are still challenging for the title. He further added, “I think we’ve become resilient to play against. We could have been beaten, although I still think it’s two dropped points. Maybe if we’d got all three points at Tottenham, we could have looked upon this as a better result in hindsight.”
