After their 5-3 loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane on New Year, Chelsea bounced back with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United and moved to the top of the table courtesy Steven Naismith’s equaliser that made Manchester City to share points at Goodison park following Fernandinho’s goal. Goals from Oscar and Diego Costa earned Jose Mourinho’s men three crucial points but the score line could have been different if the referee Roger East had given the hosts a penalty for a Fabricio Coloccini hand ball inside the box.
Oscar’s 42nd minute strike courtesy an assist from Eden Hazard was the only positive for Chelsea in a rather disappointing first half but once the second half began, Chelsea had the intent which was missing in the first 45 minutes. The second goal was even better as Hazard penetrated through the defence provided the pass to Oscar with a chip in the air just for the Brazilian to execute a flick to Costa who finished it with ease. It was also Costa’s 15th goal of the season and his tenth goal at Stamford Bridge, the highest at home by any player this season. Mourinho’s tactic to put Peter Cech in front of the goal ahead of Thibaut Courtois worked as the Czech Republic goalie looked in ominous touch throughout the game. Here are some reactions from the fans in twitter.

Newcastle didn’t give it away to the Blues.
Rough match for #NUFC considering they were the best team on the pitch for much of it. At least meeting with Chelsea is done early. #CHENEW — Nick Oristian (@museumnowudont) January 10, 2015
