REJECTED: Why New Manchester United Boss Louis Van Gaal Was Right To Turn Down Spurs For Old Trafford Job

Reports suggest that new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was close to joining Tottenham before he landed the job at Old Trafford. Here are three reasons why he was right to reject the north London side for his new northern home.

1) Expectations

No one could have followed in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps this season. I knew that, you knew that, and I think David Moyes probably knew that. It’s a hard gig to turn down though, and now that it has been and gone, United’s expectations are in the gutter.

With no European football next season fans are expecting the new boss  to re build a squad of his own. You get the sense that the feeling around Old Trafford is something similar to ‘well, it can’t be worse than last year’.

Spurs, however, are constantly expected to finish in the top four despite not having the resources to do so, in my eyes.

2) The Squads

There is a lot of deadwood in both sides, but with Spurs spending such high amounts of money last season it would have been unlikely that van Gaal would have been handed a huge amount this time.

United have a clean slate and I think he will use the transfer window wisely to build on the quality he has.

3) Silverware

Let’s be honest, there is more chance of the Red Devils winning silverware than Tottenham this season. Even Moyes managed some with the Community Shield.
