Done Deal: Manchester United Secure A 5-Year Deal With Spaniard

Manchester United goalkeeper and rumoured Real Madrid target David De Gea is all set to agreeing a new contract with the club. According to Ecuadorian journalist Roberto Bonafont, the Spaniard will sign a 5-year contract that will give him £120,000-a-week.

The former Atletico Madrid man’s contract runs out in 2016, and if he keeps performing like he did against Everton a few weeks back, then he might just wait a little longer before extending his contract at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid signed Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Levante in the summer, but the 27-year old has rarely appeared for the club. Iker Casillas’ form has been patchy so far this season which led to him being dropped in Spain’s win over Luxembourg earlier in the week. Casillas’ form has dipped since he lifted the Euro 2012 with Spain. Moreover, at 33 years of age, his time might be up at the Spanish capital.

De Gea is only 20 years of age when he made his big money move from Atletico Madrid to Manchester United in 2011, and at the time, he was deemed ‘too weak’ to play in the Premier League. After a few patchy periods, he started producing match winning saves, with the 2013 season being his personal best despite the rest of the team struggling under then manager David Moyes.

At 23, De Gea still has plenty of time to decide on where he wants to play. Real Madrid could be a good option for the Spaniard as he is a much improved player now and can handle playing in a team of star names who compete every season for honours. De Gea cost United £18.9m, so Madrid will definitely have to dish out a lot more than that to sign him from United.

As for the fans, they will hope that De Gea remains focussed for United’s next game against West Brom on Monday amidst all the contract-talk rumours and Real Madrid’s supposed interest.
