Arsenal Step up Chase For £12m Rated Defensive Midfielder

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer as revealed by Goal & Metro. The Londoners have dispatched scouts to watch the 23-year old’s progress at Monchengladbach and will decide on what to do based on his performances.

Kramer is on-loan at Monchengladbach from his parent club Bayer Leverkusen and isn’t impressed on how they have treated him so far as they have loaned him out for four successive seasons since he made the step up from Bayer Leverkusen II in 2011. According to reports, the midfielder will cost somewhere around £12m as he is contracted with Leverkusen until 2017.

The Germany international is currently in his second year at Monchengladbach and revealed,  “In general, being involved in the football business is often like modern human trafficking.

“But for me, a contract can say whatever it wants. If I don’t want to play somewhere next season, I won’t play there. In the end, I will still decide where I play.”

Kramer had an impressive year prior to the current season which led to him being selected for the World Cup. He even featured in the final but was taken off due to an unfortunate head injury. Under Monchengladbach manager Lucien Favre, Kramer has found his main role, which is that of a defensive midfielder with an eye for a final pass. He has made 9 appearances in the Bundesliga this season and has been a key player in his side’s form so far as Monchengladbach are the only side along with Bayern Munich who are unbeaten so far in the Bundesliga and sit second in the league.

Arsene Wenger is in desperate need of a holding midfielder as his side have suffered despite playing good football upfront. The likes of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Jack Wilshere haven’t impressed in that position as neither are well suited to play the role of a defensive midfielder in the Premier League. Considering that the Bundesliga is the closest that comes to the Premier League in terms of physicality, Kramer will be an ideal signing for the Gunners.
