Spanish Giants Rock Arsenal & Manchester Clubs As £200,000-a-week Star Doesn’t Favour EPL Clubs

Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus is set to reject a £200,000-a-week move to the Premier League in favor of Barcelona. The attacker was interested in a move to Barcelona in the last transfer window but the Blaugrana went and signed Luis Suarez instead. This hasn’t made Marco Reus give up hope on a move to La Liga as he has rekindled his interest to join the them.

According to reports in Spain, Reus will stay in Dortmund until Barca’s transfer ban ceases to exist which will take a couple of transfer windows. Reus’ contract expires in 2017, which means he has enough time to decide where he wants to go if at all there will be other clubs looking for him. The 25-year old refused to sign a contract extension earlier this year after learning of other clubs’ interest.

The decision will come as a huge blow for Premier League clubs Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool who were being linked with the former Monchengladbach winger. Manchester United and Arsenal were heavily linked with Reus in the summer but the latter decided to go for Alexis Sanchez. The path for United was clear in January to go ahead and meet Reus’ release clause of  £19.5m, however, they will now have to reconsider their options as he isn’t interested in a move.

In all this, Jurgen Klopp and Dortmund will be the biggest losers as the last two years have been a story of talented players leaving the side. Mario Goetze and Robert lewandowski left Dortmund for Bayern and there are persistent rumours surrounding Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels as well. The transfer outs have impacted Dortmund heavily as their performances have dipped in the last few months. Despite a strong Champions League showing so far, they have lost 5 games in a row in the Bundesliga which has put them in the relegation zone.

Reus could still make the switch elsewhere if Dortmund continue their terrible league form. The Germany international has been in brilliant form so far and has scored 5 times in 9 appearances after returning from his ankle injury suffered prior to the World Cup.
