After winning the award for the best player of the year in 2014, Ronaldo has thanked the Manchester United fans and urged the Real Madrid fans to support Gareth Bale, who was booed by the Madridistas after he failed to pass the ball to Ronaldo denying a clear scoring chance. In spite of achieving all he could, Ronaldo is still grateful to his previous club and manager.

“I think about Manchester United. The beginning of my career was there, that’s where I started. I know the fans are there supporting me. I haven’t had a message from Sir Alex yet but I speak with him often. He told me to keep improving all the time. He said: ‘Cristiano, you’re the best, don’t worry about the rest’.

Ronaldo was spotted by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2003 during United’s 3–1 loss to Sporting Lisbon in the inauguration of the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon. Ferguson wasted no time in acquiring Ronaldo’s services and honoured him by the jersey number 7, which was worn by legendary George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham. He also became the first Portuguese to sign for the Red Devils. It was where Ronaldo was established as a footballer as a move to Real Madrid looked inevitable. He drew everyone’s attention with his performance which included 84 goals in 196 appearances.

A move to Madrid happened in 2009 as Real Madrid signed the Portuguese winger for a world record whopping fee of 94 million euros on a six year contract. He excelled when playing for Real Madrid as he has netted a stunning tally of 203 goals for the club in 181 matches.

He has broken all possible records with Real Madrid and has won the league, Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup with both the teams. HE was also awarded the Ballon d’Or thrice in his career (2008, 2013 and 2014).
