Wolves Forward Joe Mason Is All Set For A Move To Colorado Rapids

Colorado Rapids manager Anthony Hudson has confirmed that striker Joe Mason will be moving to the MLS after a transfer agreement was reached with Wolverhampton Wanderers, report the Daily Mail.

After Leo Bonatini arrived at Molineux at the start of the season, Mason has been on the periphery at Wolves and has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The arrival of Bonatini saw Mason sent out on to Burton Albion in order to get some game time. The move to Burton initially worked wonders for the 26-year-old as he scored on his Brewers debut against Sheffield Wednesday in a 1-1 draw.

However, as time passed on, Mason failed to make an impact and an inflamed appendix saw him clock only six more appearances for Burton.

The former Plymouth Argyle man officially returned to Wolves in January, but after more attacking arrivals in the form of Benik Afobe and Rafa Mir, it was clear Mason had no future in the West Midlands.

As things stand, it appears as if Mason is set to be given a chance to revitalise his career after Colorado Rapids boss Hudson came knocking at the Molineux door for the second time this year. Just last month, midfielder Jack Price made the move across the pond to link up with the Denver based club.

Mason will follow in the footsteps of another former Wolves striker, Kevin Doyle, who made the same move in May 2015 after six years with the club. Doyle has made over 70 appearances for the Rapids and managed to score 16 goals in MLS before retiring from the game at the end of the last season.

Rapids head coach Hudson confirmed the deal was done in principle at a press conference.

Hudson was evidently delighted with the purchase of Mason, as he was quoted by the Daily Mail: “There have been reports about Joe Mason. We’re really pleased that we’ve come to an agreement with the player and the club.”

“He’s a top player whose played at a really high level. He’s going to suit how we play, suit the league so now all we’re waiting for is the formalities- visas and these type of things.”

The Rapids’ 2018 MLS campaign gets underway on March 10 with a game against the New England Revolution meaning Hudson will be keen to get Mason involved in things as soon as possible.

Hudson underlined this point when he concluded: “Hopefully he’s here as quickly as possible, he’s a great signing for us.”
