Well into October, And Manchester City sit joint at the top of the league, having scored 22 goals, and only failing to win on one occasion.
With signings such as Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri lighting up the league, and players such as Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli also playing and feeling like exciting new signings, it’s not difficult to see why many are touting City to be number one come May.
But with so many superstars, there may be a danger of over-looking some of the players that are making this team tick..
David Silva is beginning to show the world exactly how good he is. And after being in and out of the starting line-up for City in his first season for the club, and struggling to stand out in an international team that are currently dominating world football, with limited substitute appearances in Spain’s successful world cup campaign, it is now time to recognise Silva as one of the world’s best play-makers.
After a superb start to the season for his club, Silva seems to have excelled after showing glimpses of brilliance last season, and is now dictating the flow of the game whenever he steps foot on the pitch.
His efforts are not only recognised in Manchester, as Silva started the game in Alicante for Spain against Scotland this week, and immediately shone.
Recently quoted as saying that he felt like a “supporting actor” in the Spain set-up, David Silva wasted no time in making his point with two very well-taken goals in the first half, and setting up Spain’s third goal for David Villa.
Finally, Silva is being picked out as a key player for the international team being described as one of the best teams ever to have played the game. Now, perhaps it is time for Silva to be thrust into the spotlight.
Maybe the best Spanish players don’t necessarily have to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona after all?
And who would bet against the Spaniard continuing this rich vein of form for the rest of the season and beyond?
