He’s just turned 65.
Yet Ryan Giggs is set to sign another new contract at Manchester United.
Ok, ok, so maybe the Welsh legend isn’t that old, but he’s been around so long he is one of Britain’s best golden oldies.
In reality, Giggs is only 38, and continues to perform superbly at the highest level of English football.
And that’s exactly why Untied boss Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t want his midfielder reaching for the pipe and slippers just yet, no matter how tempting sitting in every lunchtime watching Bargain Hunt may sound for the veteran.
Reports today state that the winger could put pen to paper on a new 12-month contract, should he decide to carry on playing at the end of this current season.
It seems that the ball is well and truly in Giggs’ court, and whether his desire to keep on turning out at Old Trafford will have diminished come next summer.
Red Devils supporters will be hoping it doesn’t, as the United great adds experience and quality to their engine room, whilst also being on hand to help develop the career of some of the youngsters too.
But who would blame Giggs if he decides to hang up his boots after what has been a fantastic career.
And after all, you’re supposed to retire at 65 anyway.
