Forget Torres and Carroll, Rhodes is the man

It was this time last year that the transfer market went slighty mental with the transfers of Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll.

The phrase ‘panic buy’ was invented for January 2011 as Chelsea felt it would be a good idea to splash out £50 million on a striker that had been mis-firing for over 18 months.

Then when people started to think that it couldn’t get any more ridiculous, Liverpool decided to use the majority of the cash they had gained from the Spainard’s departure on a non-international who had around 12 decent Premier League games under his belt.

Needless to say, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive again this year and no doubt an underachieving club will be paying over the odds for a player in the hope that he will get them out of their current predicament.

But chairman of the Premier League fear not, you may not have to be writing out that reluctant overpriced cheque after all. Jordan Rhodes could be exactly what you are looking for.

The Huddersfield Town youngster took his league total for the season up to a prepostorous 25, with a casual 5 goals in his side’s demolition of Wycombe last night.

The 21 year-old is available for around £5 million, and shows all the characteristics and ability to be a top-level player. He has age on his side, scores bags of goals, works hard, but most of all he seems to be grounded and isn’t believing his own hype. A trait sometimes overlooked but severely important, which time and time again seperates the players who make a careers out of their natural ability, and ones that get placed under the ‘what could have been’ category.

Rhodes seems to be taking everything in his stride as he becomes statisticly one of the most lethal forwards in Europe this season, for club and country. That’s right, he’s also netted 6 in 6 for the Scottish under 21s as well, proof that he can find the net at a higher level.

So before Premier League clubs decide to splash the cash on an over-priced pre-Madonna, they need to take a trip down to the Galpharm Stadium to see Jordan Rhodes. He won’t cost much and could prove to be the bargain of the decade.
