Germans are not fruity for Guti

When one looks back at the Real Madrid ‘Galatico’ generation, no one ever seems to put Guti in the same bracket as his compatriots, who he shared a pitch with for many a season.

Inundated with natural ability, the Spainard never properly lived up to his potential despite collecting five La Liga titles and 3 Champions League trophies.

Now a free agent, the 35 year-old may be in the twilight of his career but if ever there was a player who wouldn’t need to worry about his playing style being effected by age then it is Guti.

All of his key attributes- movement, passing, first touch, awareness, are abilities that don’t vastly deteriorate with age, this is why it is such a surprise Schalke are passing on the opportunity to sign the player.

The Bundesliga title chasing side have been heavily linked with the former-Madrid man, but have denied the transfer tales-

“It is not true, there is nothing in it, Guti was a great player, but he is not an issue for us.” said Schalke Director of Sport Horst Heldt.

With the transfer window being unervingly quiet this month, clubs should be queing up for a player of Guti’s calibre, and with a good injury record and his style of play he has at least two more seasons within him.

Don’t bet against a late Tuesday night move for the devasting playmaker.
