At the age of 31, Newcastle United’s Alan Smith is by no means in the twilight of his career, but his loan move to MK Dons does signify that he may have already experienced the most successful parts of his footbaling life.

Over the last few weeks I have been questioning the persistent attempts to give players out of form the chance to regain it. 

This week Michael Ball was unceremoniously dismissed and fined £6,000 by his employers Leicester City Football Club for posting homophobic comments on Twitter. Just a couple of week’s before that Paul Jewell made unsavory and somewhat sexist comments about female official Amy Fearn, after watching his team’s defeat against Birmingham City.

Often labelled as the greatest cup competition on the planet, the FA Cup started in 1871 and is loved for its ‘all or nothing’ match pace, giant-killings and its illustrious cup final day out to Wembley. The competition has been held in high prestige amongst clubs and its fans from all tiers since its creation.

It now seems that Chelsea defender Alex has finally completed his long drawn out move to Paris St. Germain, which begs the question…is Carlo Ancelotti trying to re-create his title winning side from 2011?
