A controversial England line-up

Most fans think they can pick a better England team than the manager and now that Psycho is in temporary charge it’s also probably true.

Previously I selected my England team and few disagreed, the only major talking point being my exclusion of Ashley Young on the basis he is yet to be a proven winner or a big game player.

Right now my team selection and rationale is as follows:-

We have only one keeper, Joe Hart, if he gets hurt its over. The days when goalkeepers like David Seaman left us crying at their ineptitude are over, this guy is the real deal and Manchester City have found a gem. We can only envy them.

Defensively I think it’s over for Rio Ferdinand and John Terry. Rio was oh so poor in letting Grant Holt turn and shoot in the Norwich game and though Ryan Giggs saved his blushes it finally proved to me that it’s game over for Rio with England.

Terry is just a total liability and should never play for his nation again. End of.

So my back 4 are as I said all along, Kyle Walker, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Leighton Baines.

I see Glen Johnson as good going forward (cuts in shoots with left foot scores 2 a season, can’t defend) and Ashley Cole could bring out drinks at halftime and chat up the ball girls.

Given Phil Jones Is showing his headless chicken nature we need Scott Parker in front of these central 2 and for Michael Carrick to cover for him if he gets injured.

Midfield is then down to a selection of either untried players or oldies.

I’d say Paul Scholes, Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard and Gareth Barry are playing for 3 places.

Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney are up top and Theo Walcott, Adam Johnson and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain are bench impact players.

This team lacks width and creative spark, but welcome to English football, the 1-0 kings of the world.

Can we get anywhere? Well once Denmark won it with boring football so maybe we can.

We have a punchers chance.

Spain and Germany are light years ahead of us, so don’t waste your money at the bookies.
