Ivanovic is right on Modric

It emerged today that Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has urged Luka Modric to leave Tottenham Hotspur to further his career. Modric was heavily linked with a move to the Blues last summer, only for Spurs to hold firm and reject their advances. With the North London side missing out on Champions League football again next season, it isn’t surprising to see the Croatian being linked with a move away from White Hart Lane.

However, despite Spurs fans hoping to keep hold of the diminutive schemer, a move away from the club could be the best thing for the player. Since arriving in 2008 from Dynamo Zagreb, Modric has little to show for his performances, other than one season in the Champions League and a further top four finish. A player of his quality deserves to be winning trophies each and every season, something Spurs won’t be doing as long as rival clubs continue to outspend them every season.

Some are of the opinion that the midfielder should be granted a move away from the club, but only if it is away from England. Both Real Madrid and Paris St. Germain have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old, the former in particular, and many wouldn’t begrudge him the opportunity to ply his trade at the Bernabeu.

With that in mind, Spurs would, reportedly, be willing to listen of around £35m for Modric, a fee that Real may stump up or opt to include one or two players as a makeweight in any deal. Either way, it is looking increasingly likely that the Croatia international is going to leave Spurs this summer, a move that he has earned during his four years in North London.
