There are some things you never see on a professionals’ football pitch in Britain; humility being a prime example.
This video is another example of another thing you see on pitches in top flight football elsewhere in the world. A grenade.
Yup, a grenade.
The match is a game in the Asian Champions League between Iran’s Sepahan and Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia which might go some length to explaining the presence of a grenade in a place a grenade probably shouldn’t be. Or, according to the Guardian, it is a local derby in the Iranian city of Isfahan. So yeah, good start.
Anyway, what is for sure is that the situation could have been a lot worse. A lot worse.
Note the number of players in the vicinity of the area for starters. And then note how soon the grenade explodes after the player picks it up and chucks it.
The incredible thing is that a) the match was initially cancelled before after some security checks, restarted and b) the reaction of the players who stand about nonchalantly like its an everyday occurrence.
