Fergie complaining about time-keeping? Pot kettle black…

You have to hand it to Tottenham Hotspur, the way they ground out their win against Manchester United was nothing short of superb. When Nani halved the deficit just after the restart, many had anticipated a famous Spurs collapse and the hosts to go on to pick up all three points.

Even once Shinji Kagawa netted moments after Clint Dempsey restored the two-goal advantage, a United win appeared a formality. But it just wasn’t to be for United and Spurs were able to walk away from Old Trafford with all three points for the first time in 23 years.

Once the fourth official had signalled for four minutes, many still tipped the Red Devils to net a late equaliser, especially with some complaining about the length of the added time. The fabled ‘Fergie Time’ was believed to come into play again and this is where the root of the problems start.

Sir Alex Ferguson has long been criticised for swaying decisions his way like it’s his god given right to do so. Even once the allotted four minutes were up, Chris Foy opted against blowing up straight away, primarily because United were on the attack.

That was understandable; officials do that for any team regardless of playing home or away. However, Ferguson’s comments post match left many scratching their heads, with a vast majority of football fans pondering why the Scot would make such an outlandish statement.

Numerous times in the past, United have mustered late goals as a result of officials playing beyond the time that had been added on initially. While any other manager may’ve had a point with the extra time, Ferguson, unfortunately, won’t be receiving any sympathy from his comments, regardless if he has a point or not.
